Prices start at £4,932 for a 123cm width unit.

Graceline mirrored cabinets from Laufen; Villeroy & Boch’s O.novo Style decorated basin

3. Lighting scheme
Swiss innovator Schneider has introduced a new series of Graceline mirrored cabinets. Featuring upper indirect fluorescent lighting plus three subtle LED light bands found towards the lower part of the wall-hung cabinet, you can choose from a range of stimulating shades. The lights can be left on rotation or adjusted to stop at a preferred colour and are controlled by touch sensors located discreetly beneath the cabinet. Each unit has an internal socket and adjustable glass shelves and comes in widths of 100cm, 120cm, 130cm and 150cm. The mirrored cabinet shown, (H)70x(W)100x (D)12cm, costs from £1,498. The vanity unit is priced from £1,255, and the washbasin from £526, both from Laufen.

4. Stylish patterns
If you’re looking to add a contemporary colour and pattern to your bathroom or cloakroom, take a look at Villeroy & Boch’s O.novo Style decorated basin, (W)60x(D)49cm, priced from £300. Choose from Pretty Silhouette, Playground and Cherry Blossom patterns in blue, orange or violet. For added versatility, team it with a smart vanity unit, (W)65x(H)50.5x(D)39cm, from £361, featuring edge trims in any of the three colourways. You can also use a helpful configurator at villeroy-boch.com to experiment with different colour combinations and patterns to get the perfect look.

Sam Ball, in-house stylist at UtopiaModular vs fitted furniture

‘The minimalist look of modular furniture is very popular – if you have a small space, a single modular washbasin unit can work as a striking focal point.

‘Curved or angular fitted statement furniture is perfect if your bathroom is awkwardly shaped, or if you need to disguise pipes. Large mirrored cabinets, co-ordinated to match the carcass colour of a fitted vanity unit, for example, will complete your room scheme.’

The new wall-hung furniture range from Utopia

5. Natural looks
If you thought that modular has to mean modern then check out the new wall-hung furniture range from Utopia in its Timber Collection. Featuring the Henley door, this Shaker-inspired walnut cabinet is teamed with a 50mm black gloss laminate surface to add a classic yet contemporary touch, which is softened by the texture of real wood. Wall-hung furniture also makes a room appear larger by exposing more floor space. A wall-hung single drawer unit with two Quantum Square Elegant basins measures (H)31.5x(W)161x (D)45cm and costs £2,364, while the sliding mirror unit, (H)75x(W)160x(D)20cm, is £1,035. Georgina Spencer, marketing manager, Roca UKSpace-saving ideas for small spaces

‘Small bathrooms require functional space-saving features and storage solutions, but that doesn’t mean practicality and style have to be exclusive. Well designed pieces should offer aesthetics as well as functionality.

‘If you include a statement piece, such as a wall-mounted column unit, it not only frees up floor space it also adds a focal point, drawing attention away from the size of the room.

‘A mirror also makes a great focal point – and many products on the market incorporate mp3 connectivity, LED lights and a radio.’

Georgina Spencer, marketing manager, Roca UK
