‘Our bathroom was in serious need of an update. We’d lived in this house for 14 years and made do with what was here ever since we moved in. It was quite oppressive and unwelcoming, with the dark green tiles – even though I’d tried to match blinds and accessories to brighten the space. Then the shower started leaking, which was the last straw and prompted us to do up the room at last. Although the space was big enough, everything in it needed replacing.’
‘Because we had not done any work on the house since moving here, the kitchen was equally dated and in need of modernisation. So, we decided to seek financing so that we could do both rooms and, luckily, we were able to borrow enough money.
‘We employed Michael’s brother Tom, who is a builder, to do the work, as we knew he would listen and take into consideration all our plans. We sat down with Tom and went through several possible layouts for the room, including a bath, shower, toilet, sink and boiler cupboard. In the end, we realised that the way the previous owners had done it was the best use of the space.
