Adding an en suite

Adding an en suite

With seven large bedrooms in their three-storey house, Rachel and Jon Trigg decided to transform one into a luxury en suite for their master bedroom, complete with a free standing bath.

The problem

‘We were renovating the whole house and really wanted an en suite for our master bedroom. This would take some of the pressure off the existing family bathroom, too – which, with our young, growing family, was important.

‘We had converted the attic, gaining two double bedrooms, a bathroom and a sitting room. As both Jon and I live a long way from our families, this additional floor had been intended to provide them with a private space when they come to stay with us. But it also meant we had plenty of rooms and so could transform one first-floor bedroom into the luxurious en suite we wanted.’

What we did

‘We had the original doorway from the hall blocked up and a new entrance created from the adjoining master bedroom. As the room measured over 22m2, we decided to take some of this space to create a new narrow, walk-in wardrobe between the two rooms. The position of the window meant that the maximum width we could achieve was 90cm – but it’s still a workable space.
