Rear glazed extension

Deenan Pillay and his wife Philippa Matthews extended their 1930s home into the garden and the loft to create their dream home.

The original house and the extension
ABOVE: (Before) Originally, the house felt claustrophobic and dark, with a timber-framed conservatory that didn’t suit the light; (After) Extending provided a large kitchen-diner on the ground floor, while a loft conversion created a new master suite.

‘When my mother moved out of her home into a flat, we moved in. The house didn’t suit our family, but it was useful while we looked at other options. It was hard to find anything better to buy locally, so we called in architect and designer Sanya Polescuk, who designed a loft conversion for a new en suite master bedroom and a glazed rear extension to house a large kitchen-diner and family space.’

The glazed extension
ABOVE: The glazed doors and ceiling allow lots of natural light into the kitchen-diner.

Costs

Rear extension: £1,650- £1,850/m² plus VAT
Loft conversion: £950- £1,250/m² plus VAT
