Spring decorating: Citrus colours

There are citrus influences everywhere this season. Zesty orange, lemon and lime are the perfect antidote to gloomy days – these energetic and upbeat collections are designed to make you smile, and the new paint colours are truly inspirational.

John Lewis’ Playnation has bold, clashing stripes and geometrics set against bright furniture, while Topps Tiles has stunning lemon and lime wall tiles.

Citrus colours: Get the look

The colours you choose for your decorating schemes will have a dramatic influence on your mood – waking up in a bright, cheery bedroom will have a positive and energising effect.

With citrus shades it is all a question of degree – how brave are you? A statment wall in lime green can look stunning in the right setting, as can a mix of two or three clashing shades. It will certainly create the wow-factor, but it isn’t for everyone.

If a large area of bright colour seems too bold, then try teaming it with darker shades, such as black and grey, to tone down the look. Alternatively, one single citrus accessory or a piece of furniture in an otherwise neutral space can become an instant statement. It may be all you need to give a whole new feel to a room.
